How many lithium batteries can I install in the SW1600 and where are they mounted?

Published on 04/14/2026

The SW1600 can have a maximum of 4 x 6000W 24v mastervolt Lithium house batteries.

They are installed in saloon seating area and as seperate from the 12v AGM engine start batteries.

As the charging rates and systems are very different from Lithium to AGM batteries, we run seperate high amperage output alternators on the inboard engines to charge the house batteries as part of the Lithium battery upgrade. This is in addition to the standard Yanmar alternators which are dedicated to the start battery charging.

Redundancy: We run a safety emergency parallel switch from port to stbd engine start batteries in case one battery is flat. This allows you to take the power from one engine and bring it across to the other battery.

In addition to this, we setup a DC to DC charger, allowing the house bank to charge the start batteries. To do this this DC to DC charger needs to convert th power from 24v to 12v. Thre is a second DC to DC charger also used to provide power to the VHF (mandatory to be 12v) and other 12v circuits such as the NMEA network.
