What the the different ways to heat water on the boat

Published on 04/14/2026

As standard, the boat is equipped with a hot water tank mounted under the starboard aft cabin bunk on the outboard side. Water can be heated using the starboard inboard diesel engine via a heat exchanger. To do this, you simply have to run the engines for 20-30 minutes.

As standard, this same unit comes with an electric immersion heater that will either be a 110v or 230v heater. We only set these up to be able to run when on shore power as the thermostat will constantly trigger the tank to power in / out of use and they draw a lot of power, so therefore do not want them to be running through the house / inverter system, /
When plugged into shore power, this will automatically run through the shore power connection, providing the breaker is in the on position.

As a final option, and more likely for the customers who are using their boat in colder climates, there is a sperate diesel heater option from Webasto. This is a smaller diesel heater that is used primarily as a room heater as it pumps hot water around the boat which then has a series of heat exchangers / blowers i eat cabin to heat the space. As a side benefit, this unit can also be used to produce hot water, again through heat exchanger, to be supplied to the hot water tank. The benefit being, less time being run on your Yanmar engines, and a more efficient fuel burn for the resultant water.
