The ultrasonic transducer upgrade we offer is from Airmar and seamlessly integrates with the B&G network.
The Sped/Depth/Temp Tri-data transducer has no moving parts so there is no regular cleaning of the rotating paddlewheel under the hull, such that you would have in the standard navigation kit. Paddlewheels are what is used on 90%+ Of the yachts in the world and whilst they typcially work, they can clog and stop spinning due to growth.
Once you lose your "Boat Speed" which is your speed through the water, your navigation is solely reliant on the GPS speed from the chartplotter. Whilst not giving accurate speed data, it will also prevent the ability to give an apparant wind speed or direction, as this is a calculated number using the "Boat Speed" as part of the formula.
