On the smaller Seawind models, such as the 1160, 1190 and 1260 , owners have benefited from a relatively basic and yet robust steering system for many years. It offers safety through redundancy as essentially you have two independent steering systems connected to two individual helm stations, which are then linked together with a cross bar. For the 1370, we thought this proven design was not to be deviated from.

For the 1370 we are also opting to go with an emergency tiller. The tiller shaft will be inserted through the deck fitting above the rudder stock, allowing emergency steering should there be any issue with the trafer bar or wire cabling.
It is worth noting that should one rudder or one wheel become disabled or jammed, it is possible to disconnect the transfer bar at the outboard end and then retain the use of the system using the working rudder / wheel.
Of course, as with most most catarans, twin inboard diesels alow for great manouverability over our monohull friends anyway as an additional for of redundancy.
The linear drive autopilot can also bee seen in the above inmage on the stbd side.
This is an additional safety device as not only can you steer a catamaran such as the 1370 easily under power with twin moors, you can also disable one side of the steering system and continue to use the other side should you need.
