Seawind Turkiye is a subsidiary company of Seawind Group Holdings in Australia. The company is setup in the a freezone industrial park, meaning that the materials we import are free from duty, on the basis that the products are exported.
On a foreign flag therefore (non-Turkish), no VAT or duty is applicable.
If the boat is registered by a flag company (a company established as the business with ownership of the vessel), the boat can stay in Turkey for 5 years. After this period, the boat needs to leave Turkey, enter another country and come back to start another 5 year stay period. This can be done just by exiting Turkey, entering one of the nearby Greek islands within an hour of sailing distance and coming back to Turkey. Foreign boats staying in Turkey just need to renew their Transit Log once every year. This is a very simple process, done by any agent.
Note, within the first 6 weeks of the boat being launched, the vessel must be officially exported in order to benefit form the import duty exemptions on the construction materials. Again, this is very easily done as a day process as part of the early handover and commissioning phase.
