Congratulations Bill Dickers who in his 2007 Seawind 1000 “Miz Behavin” won the 2014 Audi Hamilton Island Race Week Multihull Cruising Division.
With a wide variety of 12 contestants in a closely fought series “Miz Behavin” consistently won or were in the top three on five occasions with his seasoned Jervis Bay Crew and family. Yes, family. The annual Seawind Whitsunday Rally has proven Seawinds and family do very well.
Peter Barrett’s very new Seawind 1250 “Sea Twist” also participated in their first racing experience coming a credible overall sixth in a broad range fleet “Sea Twist” consistently outperformed the fleet with her Spinnaker runs. Spinnakers and Screechers are encouraged in this class. Peters purpose for entry was to have fun and improve his sailing skills.
Audi Hamilton Island Race Week Organisers did an impeccable job organising some 200 participants in 12 divisions. Races started at 5 minute intervals with not only each participant suitably handicap rated in their division but also each division allocated one of 26 courses of varying distance to have them all finish together. Finishing with the big boys was a very exciting experience.
Fees for the event were less than the cost of the Marina berths provided and other events such as the presentation dinner optional making it a very affordable event.
Congratulations to Bill and his crew for showing the way. We look forward to more charter as well as private boats at both of the 2015 Audi Hamilton Island Race Week and Seawind Rally.
