Strong Seawind Presence at Brisbane Multihull Series

Following the incredible turnout of both cruising and racing catamarans and trimarans at the Hamilton Island Race week in August, Multihull Central hosted the first Moreton Bay Multihull Regatta over the weekend.

With fifteen multihulls entered in total, Seawind again made up the largest class enjoying some social racing between friends, but were also accompanied by some high performance multihulls including two Corsair Pulse trimarans, the Boatworks modified Grainger cat and a Schionning G Force.

Hosted from the Royal Queensland Yacht Squardron, the boat owners and crew got together for a social BBQ on Friday night after the day’s racing had been blown out with strong winds.

Racing on Saturday around Moreton Bay however was a dream run, with a beautiful 15 knot South Easterly blowing the fleet around the islands. Using a staggered start system, the faster boats had a challenge on their hands to climb their way up the fleet cruising cats that had a head start.

This starting system had a series of close finishes as the fleet came together making for a fun and exciting day of sailing between boats with considerably different boat speeds, while racing was divided by lunch with boats rafting up in the lee of Green Island.

The Seawind 1160 ‘Talisker’ was the best performing of the Seawind fleet of eleven boats. The next event in the Multihull Racing Series is the inaugural Sydney Harbour Multihull Regatta on the 28^th & 29^th of October, also open to all classes and brands of multihulls.
