Seawind West Coast Rally - Wrap up
The Seawind West Coast Rally kicked off at the Historic Banning House Lodge on Thursday 19 August with a 'Meet the Fleet Party overlooking Two Harbours. The crew used the chance to reconnect with other owners and meet those attending for the first time.
It was Steve and Pam on "Barramundi" and Nancy Robertson on "Island Time" that provided a delicious start to the day on Friday morning with Bloody-Mary's and Bagels for everyone, it was great to then listen to the adventures of Dan & Carol Seifers who picked up their Seawind 1160 "Caprice" two years ago and sailed in back from Australia. The Hawaiian Lua on the beach that night was incredible - the event even came complete with live music provided by Bobbi Rossini on his steel drums!
The fleet were greeted on Saturday by 10-15 knote breezes for the annual race around the West End of the Island. The breeze died just as the fleet rounded the West End and it was an hour or so of tactical light air sailing before an incredible finish with Roy Adcock on "Selah" taking home the gold!
As soon as the boats were all rafted up the 1st Annual Appetizer Contest came alive with some of the most delicious and creative treats you could imagine! After the prizes had been awarded for all sorts of categories, it was then onto pot luck main courses and desserts followed by the annual sing-a-long with Steve Ellsworth on the guitar and his back-up band (the rest of the crew).
This was such a great event that no-one wanted to leave, in fact, there was a unanimous vote to hang around for another night - and thats exactly what happened!
