Whitsunday Rally 2010
Wow! What an fantastic week of sailing and socialising in the Whitsundays! The annual Seawind Whitsunday Rally kicked off on the 19th of June with a meet the fleet cocktail party in Airlie Beach, QLD. The briefing outlined the race courses as well as the many onshore activities (including the Blind Mans Dinghy Race, Sand Sculpting and Trivia) all of which would contribute to the final point score at the end of the week. 19 Seawind Cats and 80 crew members set off on the first race of the week from Airlie Beach to Long Island where they would enjoy a Hawaiian themed cocktail and Karaoke party, after a night of belting out the classics and dancing around the stage (all in the name of earning points of course), the fleet retired to their boats to prepare themselves for the following days race to Cid Harbour and the highly anticipated Blind Man's Dinghy race. The mid week race had the fleet heading to Hamilton Island for trivia and Canapes at the Brand New Yacht Club. Hosting the crew for the second time in the week, Cid Harbour was the perfect location for the huge Beach BBQ sponsored by Charter Yachts Australia. After pulling up the anchor the following morning a race to Nara Inlet enabled a great night of pot luck parties and even a dedicated Seawind radio station. Hamilton Island was the last destination for the week, the marina would moor the boats for the night, however it would be New Golf Club on Dent Island that would play host for the "Academy Awards" themed presentation evening.
